Early Christmas

Christmas in Annapolis is a magical time of year. Homes glow with candlelight accented by lavish wreaths and garlands. Check out these images posted by Intrigue Floral Design of Annapolis featuring a traditional Christmas with an antique feel. The images were shot by renowned photography company Elizabeth Ryan of Baltimore. This team dressed the Gov. Calvert House for an early Christmas.

Vintage Gatsby Bride

We are loving this vintage styled shoot created by Intrigue (www.intrigue-designs.com) and Allison Barnhill (www.allisonbarnhilldesigns.com ) The details are to die for.

This look is fitting for a bride in search of a vintage Annapolis wedding or even a chic DC affair. This image of the bride in her flapper styled gown resting on the vintage sofa with the brooch bouquet is my favorite from the shoot. Visit www.facebook.com/IntrigueDesigns to view more images.

10.10.10 - Jessica & Michael

The sun was shining and the air was warm for this fabulous Fall wedding on October 10, 2010. Jessica and Michael, both recent graduates of the University of Maryland, College Park, started their lives together on the very campus they used to walk. They united their love in a beautiful ceremony at the Memorial Chapel. The celebration continued at the Alumni Center with a lavish reception, led by the amazingly talented 14-piece band, The Bill Dayton Big Band. The pink and black with crystals theme gave a posh and vibrant feel to a young and joyous atmosphere. Congratulations to Jessica and Michael. We wish you the best. Go Terps!

Margot and Cliff - One Very Hot Wedding Day

On July 24th in the sweltering 110 degree heat, Margot and Cliff tied the knot at the Kent Manor Inn in Stevensville, MD. All the guests braved the heat to sit out in the sun for the ceremony. Margot and Cliff turned to look at the guests during the ceremony and saw that they were all melting, so they told the officiant to skip everything and just make it official so they could be pronounced "Mr. & Mrs." Everyone enjoyed a wonderful dinner and danced the night away to the Dan Haas Band. Thank you Margot and Cliff for having us be part of your wedding.

Kento and Clarice - June 19, 2010

A Marriage of Two Cultures

Recently at the Woodend Manor in Chevy Chase, MD we coordinated a wedding that included many traditions from Japan and Brazil. Kento and Clarice had a beautiful ceremony and a vibrant reception and each incorporated traditions from both cultures.
During the ceremony, with the help of the Groom's sister they did the Japanese tradition of San-San-Kudo. San-San-Kudo literally means "three, three, nine times". The Bride and Groom took turns taken three sips of each of the three bowls of sake. Three is an indivisible number and nine means triple happiness. By exchanging the nuptial sake sips - three times three - husband and wife become united.

Another tradition they incorporated was the 1,000 origami cranes. Folding the cranes takes time, patience, and understanding. These same qualities are important for a marriage to last and thrive. This is why the symbol of the 1,000 hand folded cranes that decorated their wedding was such a powerful and meaningful element to their wedding. They used the cranes for the escort cards, mobiles, table accents, and as part of the wedding cake.

At Brazilian weddings, the music, samba dances, colorful dresses and delicious foods are always part of the affair. At the Woodend, we had it all. There was delicious food provided by Marco Polo, colorful bridesmaids dresses, great music and even great entertainment provided by the Samba dancers. This was one wedding the guests will never forget. Congratulations to Kento and Clarice.

Thank you to all the fabulous vendors that made this event come to life.

Jessica and Matt: Annapolis Winter Wedding

It may have been a very cold Wednesday in December, but Jessica and Matt had a beautiful Annapolis winter wedding. Jessica and Matt met in the ROTC program at American University and have been together for the past 3 years. The original plan was to have a spring wedding, but the Army needed Matt so a winter wedding it was. The original date was January 2nd, but Matt's deployment was move up and the wedding date had to be changed with a month to go before the wedding. Historic Events is thankful to all of the fabulous vendors that worked extremely hard to accomodate the change and made Jessica and Matt's wedding a day they will always remember.
